The University of Rochester Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PMR) residency is sponsored by Strong Memorial Hospital. The PMR residents spend the majority of time at this facility and the outpatient locations that are a part of each system. Residents rotate at St. Mary's and Rochester General Hospital, which are located approximately 3-12miles (10-25 minutes) apart, with readily available and accessible parking at each facility. The Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department has benefited greatly from the recent market place changes in the community. It is fully supported by the University of Rochester Medical Center to serve an integrated delivery system within the multi-county region. Administratively, PMR includes the region's largest physical therapy and occupational therapy departments, a growing outpatient physician practice and a 20-bed acute rehabilitation unit CARF-accredited in both general rehabilitation and spinal cord injury. A Federally designated Model Spinal Cord Injury Center from 1981 - 1991, the Department also provides specialty spinal cord injury services including lifetime follow-up, male fertility services and baclofen pump technology.
The diverse interests of the faculty has also lead to the development of several other specialty services, including amputee and musculoskeletal clinics, and electrodiagnostic services.
