Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation
URMC Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation provides non-surgical treatments for patients of all ages with a wide spectrum of neurologic, orthopaedic, and other chronic conditions requiring rehabilitation.
Why Choose Us?
The PM&R department at URMC takes a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to our patient’s care. The rehabilitation team, led by a physiatrist (a doctor who specializes in rehabilitation medicine), may include physical, occupational, speech, and recreational therapists, a neuropsychologist, social workers and rehabilitation nurses, as needed.
We are here to help patients regain their independence by providing the best equipment and techniques combined with patience, sensitivity, determination and a positive attitude. With our patient and family centered approach, we listen, educate, support and encourage family members to be involved in all aspects of care based on each patient’s needs.
CARF-Accredited – Our Comprehensive Inpatient Rehabilitation Program, Spinal cord injury and Stroke systems of care are accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), the agency responsible for setting the standards for the delivery of superior rehabilitative care. We are the only CARF-accredited Spinal Cord System of Care in the region.
