Direct Economic Impact: URMC a Major Employer and Economic Engine

The University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC) includes Strong Memorial Hospital, the School of Medicine and Dentistry, the School of Nursing, the University of Rochester Medical Faculty Group, and the Eastman Dental Center. Strong Health affiliates include Highland Hospital and its affiliates, The Highlands at Brighton, and the Visiting Nurse Service.

The University of Rochester is one of the region's largest employers. URMC has over 13,300 employees, with a direct payroll of over $500 million and a total budget of $1.4 billion. According to a Center for Governmental Research (CGR) economic impact study in 2002, the total economic output of URMC is $1.9 billion annually and a total of 20,000 jobs can be directly or indirectly attributed to URMC and its affiliates. URMC's capital improvement projects have created over 4,500 construction jobs.
