PROFILES IN URMC PEDIATRICS SCIENCE
Science in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Rochester Medical Center runs the gamut – from very basic studies of the molecules that change during development to clinical studies of treatments for children with particular diseases through population studies of delivery of healthcare to the children of our communities. Each issue of URMC Pediatrics Research News will profile a different scientist in each of the major themes of our research network.
The Effects of Aspirin on Children with Heart Defects: Lara Mamikonian, M.D. is studying the effect of aspirin on children with complex congenital heart defects. Predicting Early Renal Disease: Dana Work, D.O. is examining the measurement of renal reserve in children with reduced nephron mass. Health Care Transition from Pediatric to Adult Providers: Deepa Camenga, M.D. has been working on a study of transitioning children with chronic asthma to adult health care mechanisms and providers.

Leukemia Survival Following HSCT: Jessica Shand, M.D. is working towards the identification of genes associated with leukemia survival following allogeneic hematopoetic stem cell transplantation. Survival Rates and ECMO: Eliza Myers, M.D. is working on a project looking at survival data of babies who undergo extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). Developmental Testing at Well-Child Visits: The general pediatric practice at Golisano Children’s Hospital implemented formal developmental testing for all 9- and 18-month well-child visits.
