Parking Changes Underway at Medical Center
Over the next few months, significant shifts in parking in Lots 3, 2 and 1 will carve out room for two upcoming construction projects: the Clinical Translational Sciences Building (CTSB), which will be built west of Helen Wood Hall, and the Pediatric Replacement and Imaging Sciences Modernization (PRISM) tower, slated to be erected west of the Emergency Department on the Elmwood Avenue side of campus.
In the wake of these projects, the Medical Center’s new off-site parking area, Logan’s Lot, will ease some of the special parking needs. Located at 1420 Scottsville Road, the site of the former Logan’s Party House, the lot will hold approximately 620 cars. Together, two shuttles to and from the Medical Center will provide rides every 10 minutes on weekdays between 5:30 a.m. and 9 p.m. Expected to take between 7 to 10 minutes each, these rides offer two convenient drop-off locations: the Crittenden Loop at Strong Memorial Hospital and the KMRB Loop off Elmwood Avenue.
Already, more than 200 recent hires to the Medical Center have been assigned to Logan’s Lot, and close to 100 more employees have volunteered to park there. Still, we are actively seeking additional volunteers, and are slicing parking fees in half for the first year as an incentive ($240/year, or $20/month). To sign up to park in Logan’s, just add your name to the Logan’s Lot waitlist.
Groundbreaking for the CTSB is tentatively scheduled for the fall. Following that, faculty and staff parking will change as follows:
Lot 3:
A new Lot 3 will be created for the 250 faculty and staff, and the 120 visitors, who currently park in this lot. It will be located behind the CTSB facility, or what is now the northern half of Lot 2 (the parking lot that sits directly behind Lot 3). The new Lot 3 will have one entrance/exit area off Kendrick Road; its current pricing will remain in effect.
A small visitor parking area (about 40 spaces), located at the corner of Crittenden and Kendrick, will be maintained throughout the construction period. All other visitors will be directed to park in the new Lot 3. After construction is completed, a new visitor lot with about 100 spaces will be created near the CTSB.
Lot 2:
The southern half of Lot 2 will become the new Lot 2, and parking will remain 3-D. Due to its decreased size, approximately 350 to 400 faculty and staff will be transferred to Lot 1. New parking assignments will be based on seniority; faculty, staff and students joining the Medical Center in or before June 1999 will most likely remain in Lot 2. The entrance/exit to the new Lot 2 will be via Castleman Road, and current pricing will remain the same. If you are currently a lock-box parker in Lot 2, you will remain a lock-box parker if reassigned to Lot 1.
Lot 1:
Approximately 350 to 400 non-clinical staff – including staff originally relocated from Lot 2 – might be reassigned to Logan’s Lot, depending on how many additional volunteers step forward to park there. If reassignments are made, they will be based on seniority (employees hired prior to November 2006 are unlikely to move).
All faculty and staff being reassigned to new lots will receive a letter and new permits in the mail about two weeks before the new assignments go into effect. For more information, visit the Parking Office Web site or call 275-4524.
