 Overview
My research interest is focused on the regulation of SMC differentiation, particularly the regulation of Myocardin and miR-143/145, which are the key components of molecular switch of SMC differentiation. My approach is to utilize comparative genomics integrated with wet lab experiments to define the important cis-elements in the gene locus and screen for potential transcriptional factors. I am also interested in the study of functional role of novel microRNAs on SMC phenotypic modulation. By using different model systems, I screened a subset of microRNAs whose expression is closely linked to SMC phenotypic modulation. My long term goal is to uncover the functionality of those novel microRNA targets to SMC differentiation in vitro and in vivo.
