Barbara completed her PhD in Marriage Family Therapy at Texas Tech University and joined our faculty in l987. As Associate Director of Behavioral Health Services, she administers, supervises, and provides behavioral health services to patients of the Family Medicine Center. She consults with residents and faculty on their patients' psychosocial issues.
As Director of Psychosocial Curriculum, she organizes the longitudinal psychosocial core curriculum, teaches in the 16 week Psychosocial Medicine Rotation and serves as advisor of Balint Group. With her colleagues, Dave Seaburn, Alan Lorenz, Bill Gunn, and Larry Mauksch, she published Models of Collaboration: A Guide for Mental Health Professionals Working with Health Care Practitioners (1996).
In her role as Associate Director of Global Heath, she travels to San Jose, Intibuca, Honduras with teams of residents and medical students improving the health and living standard of community members there. She serves as liaison with the First Unitarian Church of Rochester who has financially supported many projects in the San Jose communities including water access and improvement and school age education.
When not working, Barbara enjoys a busy family life with her husband and two teenagers enjoying travels to Latin America, supporting children's sporting events, knitting as fund raising and scooting around town.
