The suppressive effects of allogeneic (homologous) blood transfusion on the immune system have been recognized for more than twenty years. Along with Dr. Neil Blumberg and others, Dr. Kirkley has been comparing the effects of allogeneic, autologous, and leukoreduced transfusions on immune function.
