Dr. Gary David Markowitz is a board certified ophthalmologist providing comprehensive medical and surgical pediatric eye care for routine and complicated conditions including strabismus, "lazy eye", tear duct abnormalities, and adult eye muscle disorders. He provides second opinions when requested to do so.
Dr. Markowitz is a Phi Beta Kappa, Magna cum Laude graduate and recipient of the Louis D. Brandeis Scholar Award from Brandeis University. He earned his medical degree from Columbia University's College of Physicians and Surgeons, receiving the Titus Munson Coan Prize for research in Ophthalmology. He completed his ophthalmology residency at the Scheie Eye Institute of the University of Pennsylvania and then completed a fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Adult Motility Disorders at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.
Dr. Markowitz is a Diplomat of the American Board of Ophthalmology, a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, a Specialty Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, and a Member of the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus. He is a Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology and a Clinical Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry where he assists in the care of patients and the training of resident physicians on a voluntary basis. He is involved in numerous pediatric eye care issues at local, state and national levels. Dr. Markowitz has authored articles in medical journals and the media. He has participated in several national trials evaluating new treatments for ophthalmic conditions in children.
