 Overview
Alok A. Khorana, M.D., is Vice-Chief, Division of Hematology/Oncology and Associate Professor of Medicine and Oncology at the James P. Wilmot Cancer Center, University of Rochester, Rochester, New York. He co-directs the cancer center's Multidisciplinary Gastrointestinal Cancer Program. His clinical and translational research focuses on predictive factors in gastrointestinal malignancies and cancer-associated thrombosis and is funded by grants from the National Cancer Institute, the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, and the V Foundation for Cancer Research. He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians.

Dr. Khorana serves on the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Clinical Practice Guidelines Panel, ASCO Venous Thromboembolism Guidelines Panel, the ASCO Scientific Program Committee and the GI committees of the Southwest Oncology Group and American College of Surgeons Oncology Group. He has previously served as a member of the US Pharmacopoeia Oncology Expert Committee. Dr. Khorana's scientific work has been published in a variety of scientific journals including Journal of Clinical Oncology, Blood, Cancer and Archives of Internal Medicine. He has co-authored chapters in multiple textbooks including Cecil's Essentials of Medicine and DeVita's Cancer: Principles and Practice of Oncology. He is an associate editor of the journal Cancer Investigation. Dr. Khorana's fiction and creative nonfiction works have been published in the Bellevue Literary Review and Health Affairs and selected for Best American Medical Writing 2009 (Kaplan, 2009).
