Family Therapy Theory & Technique

This course will teach students the leading schools of family therapy structural, strategic, transgenerational, narrative, etc.—as well as introducing students to Transitional Family Therapy.

Foundations of Clinical Practice in Family Therapy

In this course students will be taught introduced to the fundamental concepts and skills involved in interviewing families in a therapeutic setting. Students will learn and practice interviewing and documentation skills, have exposure to families in non-clinical settings, will learn the biopsychosocial model and will explore person-of-the-therapist issues.

Human Development Across the Family Life Cycle

This course teaches family of origin theory and its role in clinical practice through the exploration of student’s own families of origin. Students will have the opportunity to present their own genograms as well as read the literature on transgenerational issues in family therapy.

Narrative and Integrative Approaches to Family Therapy

Narrative will focus on the use of language, storytelling, metaphor and the construction of meaning in family therapy and in the life of the therapist. Students will review cutting edge literature from multiple disciplines interested in how language and storytelling shape people's lives.

Couples Therapy

Family Therapy Research

complete a masters project which will be designed by the
student in conjunction with his/her advisor and the director.
The focus of the project will be clinical, reflecting the student’s
cumulative theoretical and clinical learning.
