These selected URLs offer key nodes of access for information about the theory and practice of evidence-based medicine (EBM). EBM has become a dominate theme in medical and psychiatric practice in the last decade. The term refers to the gathering and critical appraisal of the best available evidence, ideally from well-controlled research studies, but also from expert opinion/consensus, in order to make medical decisions. In recent years, partly fueled by the demand for outcome-based research and reimbursement priorities, strategies to search the medical literature and methods to critically appraise findings are now specifically taught in professional training programs. Computer technologies are ever expanding access to information and the expectation that providers gather and appraise evidence as part of the decision making process.
