Advocacy/Support Groups

Thankfully, in recent years the stigma surrounding mental disorders is being replaced with increasing acceptance that these conditions are as "real" as any medical condition, that diagnosis can be reliably made, and that we have established reliable and effective treatments that reduce suffering and disability, and in some cases, cure. Unfortunately, stigma still represents an obstacle to funding priorities, access to treatment and is a source of discrimination and shame for those with mental disorders. Many advocacy and support agencies have developed over time to provide a political voice for those with mental disorders and to provide peer and family support services for affected persons. These selected URLs offer nodes of access for patients, providers and loved ones who wish to learn more about or to become directly involved in advocacy efforts, and for those who are seeking access to support resources in their community.
