Sleep Medicine

Sleep MedicineThe Strong Sleep Disorders Center is a state of the art, fully accredited, 14-bed sleep disorders center.  We perform over 3000 sleep studies/year and conditions treated include obstructive sleep apnea, Cheyne-Stokes respirations, parasomnias such as sleep walking and REM sleep behavior disorder, narcolepsy, idiopathic hypersomnolence, insomnia, etc.

The Sleep Disorders Center is a multi-disciplinary sleep center under the medical directorship of Don Greenblatt, M.D. (Pulmonary).  Joe Modrak, M.D. (Pulmonary) is the associate medical director and in charge of training the pulmonary fellows during their rotation at the sleep center as well as medical residents and students who take electives here.  Michael Yurcheshen, M.D. (Neurology) is the third full-time member of the clinical team, and 2 clinical psychologists staff our insomnia clinic. The Sleep Center also has a separate pediatric facility with 4 beds dedicated to pediatric patients and managed by Heidi Connolly, M.D.

We have been involved in a number of clinical research studies including one looking at CPAP compliance, a study of sodium oxybate (Xyrem) in patients with narcolepsy, and a number of studies of pediatric sleep disordered breathing.
