Robotic Prostatectomy for Prostate Cancer

Exceeding Standards:
Strict Adherence to Fact-Based Guidelines

Patients who come to Strong for prostate cancer care receive a thorough examination and health history review, in addition to secondary review of pathological slides (prostate biopsy) by Strong pathologists. Following this review, the patient’s urologist discusses with him all possible treatment options, including surgery.

While not all men with prostate cancer who elect to undergo surgery as their treatment can or should have robotic prostatectomy, the majority can. All robotic prostatectomy patients follow a pre-operative regimen that is intended to reduce the risk of complications that are associated with prostate surgery, such as infection and blood clots. At Strong, this pre-operative regimen includes:

In the operating room, special precautions are taken to assure patient comfort throughout the procedure. Patients are positioned in surgery to avoid complications such as pressure sores, post-operative numbness, and eye problems that may cause undue discomfort during recovery.

The anesthesia team is specially trained for the unique needs of robotic laparoscopic surgery patients.
