University Imaging Overview

The Department of Imaging Sciences at the University of Rochester Medical Center encompasses outstanding education, research, and clinical excellence in a leading academic health sciences institution. Our faculty are nationally recognized authorities in their respective fields. Our clinical programs are primarily conducted at the University of Rochester Medical Center at Strong Memorial Hospital. This tertiary care center houses Strong Children's Hospital, the University of Rochester Cancer Center, a Level I Trauma Center, and specialized referral services. Additional services are provided at Highland Hospital, a Strong Memorial affiliate, and two outpatient facilities: University Medical Imaging and our new PET-CT Center at Science Park. Ambulatory sites throughout the community and remote sites in the area are accessible by teleradiology.

The Department of Imaging Sciences is composed of three hospitals and three outpatient imaging centers providing digital and computed radiography, digital fluoroscopy, ultrasound, nuclear medicine, CT, MR, and angiography services. We currently operate 8 CT scanners (16, 40, and 64 slice), 7 MRI machines (1.5 and 3 Tesla magnets), and 1 PET-CT scanner.

Volume

The Department of Imaging Sciences performs over 400,000 examinations annually at Strong Memorial Hospital and its outpatient facilities. An additional 35,000 examinations are performed each year at nearby Highland Hospital. Imaging volume is increasing at a rate of approximately 10% annually.
