Web Rounds FAQ

Q: What are the system requirements for viewing Web Rounds?

Q: Can Web Rounds be viewed on the Mac?

A: In order to view Web Rounds from a Mac, Windows Media Player (version 9) must be installed and one of the following browsers must be available: IE, Safari, or Firefox.

Q: Flip4Mac plug-in for QuickTime causes Mediasite presentations not to work.

A: Installing the Flip4Mac Windows Media component for QuickTime on the Mac OS prevents Mediasite presentations from working in the Firefox, Netscape and Safari browsers. In order to resolve this issue, when installing the Flip4Mac software, select the "do not install the plug-in" option. If the plug-in is already installed, it can be disabled in the Flip4Mac system preferences.

Q: My password is no longer working.

A: If you participated in our initial pilot program for Web Rounds from Sept 2005 to June 2006, you were issued a generic user name and password. We now need you to register for a unique user name and password because as we move toward CME accreditation, this will enable us to assign you the appropriate credit for the sessions you have viewed.

Q: I don't remember my username and password.

A: Your username is the email address that you signed up with. Your password is something unique which you have chosen. If you don't remember this, please contact us through the email feedback form or by calling 784-7865 and we will reset it for you.

Q: The Media Site page appears, but the screens are blank and/or the video /audio does not play.

A: Firewall Issue: If you are accessing Web Rounds from a hospital-based computer, the firewalls in your hospital IT system may be blocking your access to this program. We have advised your IT departments about this in advance, so they can make appropriate adjustments to your firewall. Please check with your IT department first. If there is still an issue either the end user or the IT department can contact URMC at webroundsfeedback@urmc.rochester.edu

A: Pop-up Blockers: If you're using pop-up blocker, configure it to allow site pop-ups. If you aren't sure how to do this, contact your IT department. After you have made this change, you may need to click on "View" and then select "Refresh" from your browser's toolbar.

A: Log-in Prior to Presentation Start Time: Links are available to presentations a few days before they are recorded; however, these links will not produce any video or slides until the presentation is actually recorded. Double check to see that you are logging into the presentation either at or after the scheduled recording time. Please note that occasionally, there is a delay in the start time.

Q: Why don't I see any video in the video window?

A: You may not have the current version of Windows Media Player installed.

Q: What should I do if I don't have the correct version of Windows Media Player?

A: To install the latest version of Windows Media Player, go to the Windows Media download site. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia

Q: The presentation started in the middle and I can't go back to the beginning.

A: If you log into a presentation during the live broadcast, you will only be able to view where the speaker is in the actual presentation. You will be able to go back and view any portions you missed only after the live broadcast has concluded.

A: If you log into a presentation after the completion of a broadcast, you can move backwards and forwards within the content.

Q: Is CME Credit available for Web Rounds?

A: CME Credit is currently not available. The University is working on developing an automated, online process to enable users to satisfy CME requirements and to provide a quarterly report to users on CME credits earned. The development is taking some time, as it requires us to bring together several pieces of software and to meet national guidelines for enduring material CMEs, which are a bit different than live lectures. We are eager to make this enhancement available and will keep users apprised of the developments.
