Hospital-to-Hospital Transport & Transfer (24-Hour) Services

Medical or Surgical Patients

To arrange a transfer for a medical or surgical patient, call the Strong Consult and Transfer Center at the following numbers (24 hours a day, 7 days a week):

Psychiatric Patients

To arrange a transfer for a psychiatric patient, call the Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program (CPEP):

Strong Consult and Transfer Center

The Strong Consult and Transfer Center is a user-friendly resource for referring physicians, saving them time when they transfer medical and surgical patients to Highland Hospital or Strong Memorial Hospital and trauma patients to the Strong Regional Burn and Trauma Center. Transfers can be arranged from nearby hospitals and outlying regions as well as outside of the state and country.

The Center's dedicated phone line and around-the-clock staffing assures a rapid response. Specially trained nurse coordinators manage the logistics for a smooth and safe transfer as well as follow-up communication. The Transfer Center receives an average of 240 transfer requests each month—most are successfully completed on the day of the initial call.


Nurse Coordinators:

Transfer
  • Work with you to coordinate critical care transportation, including an emergency vehicle designed to transport burn, cardiac, and trauma patients
  • Register patients
  • Secure a bed in an appropriate unit
  • Facilitate nursing reports so the staff at Strong and Highland are familiar with the patient and ready to care for him or her upon arrival
  • Quickly link physicians with specialists on staff, when needed

After Admission
  • Send same-day notification of patient admission by fax to the offices of referring physicians and primary care physicians
  • Coordinate with physicians, case managers, and financial counselors

 

Other Center Services

In addition to expediting patient transfers, the Strong Consult and Transfer Center will assist physicians with:
  • Scheduling a physician-to-physician consultation
  • Information about University of Rochester / Strong Health clinical services
  • Information about patients referred to Highland or Strong Memorial Hospitals
