Hope Lodge is Home Away from Home

The American Cancer Society’s Hope Lodge and Hospitality House, located minutes from the University of Rochester Medical Center on the campus of Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School, provides free or low-cost, temporary residential facilities for out-of-town patients who are undergoing treatment at one of Rochester’s health care facilities.

Thanks to generous donations by B. Thomas Golisano and other corporate and private supporters, Hope Lodge and Hospitality House recently expanded, opening its doors to cancer, transplant and trauma patients and their caregivers, making treatment at URMC an affordable option for those living too far away to commute. Its convenient accommodations include private rooms with bathrooms and space for a family member or caregiver, and common areas such as kitchen facilities, a dining room, a library and rooms for gathering to watch TV or to share encouragement.

Hope Lodge and Hospitality House in Rochester, the first of its kind in the nation, is run by American Cancer Society staff and a network of caring volunteers, often people who understand the cancer experience. They make the treatment process easier by providing a supportive, homelike environment while reducing the financial burden of necessary, multiple-night stays.
