About This Search
Engine
This search utility is
intended to identify faculty
members with expertise in
a specified research area
of interest. The search
may be conducted across
URMC as a whole, or
constrained to a specified
"department (see pulldown
menu). The input search
string can be any text
descriptor of interest,
such as "influenza",
"stroke", etc. The
search utility then looks
for matches, based on data
in the UR electronic CV
(eCV) database
(http://ecv.mc.rochester.edu/)
- including grant data,
publication data and
information in the faculty
research bio entered in eCV.
Search results are returned
in priority order, based on
whether the search utility
accessed the data in the
faculty research bio first or
last (see Search Engine
options). Search results
include a link to the
faculty researcher's
homepage, an image of the
investigator and the first
50-75 words from the faculty
member's research bio, if
available.
Search Engine
Options:
You may select two search
options. In one case, the
search goes through grant
data, then publication data
and then information in the
faculty member's research
bio - and returns results
in priority order, based on
this search strategy. In
the other case, the search
starts with the faculty
member's research bio,
followed by grant and pub
data.
Operators:
-'And', and 'Or' work
just how you would expect
them to work
-* is our special operator.
This allows you to do a
partial word search, but it
can only be applied AFTER a
word. If you search for
Med* the search looks for
the first 3 letters to be
'Med' and the rest could be
anything else. This works
the same way if you put
it at the front.
