Matthew Balys, B.S.

Matthew Balys, B.S.Matt Balys graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 2007 with a
B.S. in Biology. While earning his undergraduate degree, Matt worked as a summer intern in the labs of Dr. Laurie Milner and Randy Rossi assisting with various biological assays (cDNA prep, digests, ligations, basic tissue culture, etc) and maintenance of a database to log usage of a liquid nitrogen facility in the Animal Tumor Research Facility.

After graduation, he returned to the University of Rochester as a full time employee in the fall of 2007 and settled in the Flow Core working for Dr. Timothy Bushnell and assisting RHIC flow services. Currently, Matt works as a FACS ARIA operator and provides evening cell sorting capability within the flow core. He has experience sorting both human and mouse cells from a variety of sources including cultured cells, PBMC, liver, spleen, tumors, lymphoma and leukemia. In addition to his cell sorting responsibilities, Matt provides assistance to the Flow and RHIC core lab services with quality control and maintenance of the BD LSRIIs, maintaining web pages, and billing support.
