Dr. Mapstone completed his Ph.D. at Northwestern University in 2000. He is a neuropsychologist who specailizes in characterization and differential diagnosis of dementia in the elderly.
Dr. Mapstone's primary research involves spatial disorientation and spatial attention in healthy elderly patients and in those with Alzheimer's disease. He is examining the functional connectivity of basal ganglia structures and frontal cortex in the support of cognitive function. Other current research projects focus on working memory and frontal-subcortical circuits, and clinical trials in dementia.
