Study of Antidepressants in Parkinson's Disease

SAD-PD

SAD-PD is a research study evaluating two antidepressants to see if they help depressed people with Parkinson’s disease.

This study is double-blind which means that neither you nor your doctor will know which study medication you will be taking. There is a 1 in 3 chance you will take Paxil, a 1 in 3 chance you will take Effexor XR, or a 1 in 3 chance you will take a placebo (sugar pill).

Participation in SAD-PD includes 7 clinic visits over a 12 week period. These visits will include:

  • physical and neurological exams
  • assessments of your mood
  • paper and pencil testing
  • medication adjustments
