DECEMBER 1997 December 17, 1997: Medical School Advisory Council votes unanimously to create a new Curriculum Steering Committee (CSC).

JANUARY 1998 Focus Groups held with students and faculty. Development of new committee structure and groups began: Curriculum Design Teams Curriculum Theme Groups Curriculum Support Teams Promotions and Review Board

FEBRUARY 1998 CSC developed draft curricular blueprint for discussion.

MARCH 1998 Draft curricular blueprint sent to all 2400 full- and part-time faculty. Discussion of curricular blueprint began at instruction site town meetings, Dr. Hundert began with a brief overview of the reasons for embarking on this new and exciting curricular planning process along with a brief review of the work to date. At Town Meetings, as well as Instruction Committee Meetings, faculty were given the opportunity to discuss the proposed curricular blueprint and curriculum development principles and guidelines with members of the CSC. JUNE 1998 First Annual Medical Education Conference June 2nd and 3rd, Hyatt Hotel, Rochester, New York "Integrating basic science and clinical teaching and learning across the curriculum." PBL "Fishbowl" Demonstration Curriculum Design Teams launch the work of course development with learning objectives as a "product" at the end of conference.

JUNE - AUGUST 1998 Appoint Curriculum Design Team course directors and members. Pilot problem-based learning assessment instrument in the Human Structure Course.

SEPTEMBER - OCTOBER 1998 Finalize detailed design and content for the new first year curriculum.
