Centers of ExcellenceA regional referral center offering comprehensive, state-of-the-art services related to the diagnosis and treatment of otological disorders. The center is a cooperative relationship involving specialists in otology/neurotology (Dr. Paul Dutcher and Dr. John Wayman), neurosurgery, head and neck surgery, and facial plastic surgery.
Center For Surgery Of The Head And NeckNew surgical approaches and reconstructive techniques offer excellent outcomes to patients with tumors affecting the head and neck. For patients with advanced-stage disease, multi disciplinary consultation with colleagues in medical oncology and radiotherapy is routine. Immediate state-of-the-art microsurgical reconstruction is available for patients whose tumor removal results in major defects. All supportive services are coordinated for the patient's convenience.
Center for the Care of the Professional Voice, and Center for Comprehensive Laryngeal LASER SurgeryThese facilities were created to treat regional, national, and international clients problems of voice, swallowing, breathing, or laryngeal cancer. Dr. C. Michael Haben, director of laryngeal surgery and the Centers, uses an integrated team and thorough evaluation with advanced diagnostics, as well as microsurgery for voice and swallowing restoration. The Center is recognized by the National Spasmodic Dysphonia Association as a provider of laryngeal botox for patients with spasmodic dysphonia. The Center for Comprehensive Laryngeal LASER Surgery is a clinic-based facility where patients with certain conditions may be treated without the need for general anesthetic, using a state-of-art 532-nm KTP fiberoptic LASER, and no hospitalization. The center specializes in larynx-saving surgery for patients with cancers of the larynx. Pediatric Otolaryngology of Golisano Children's Hospital at StrongThis center of excellence offers expertise in a wide range of problems unique to the younger patient. Consultation with colleagues in the Department of Pediatrics is sought whenever necessary. Dr. Arthur S. Hengerer, chair of the Department of Otolaryngology and Dr. Kenneth Whittemore, has a particular interest in pediatric otolaryngology.
Center For Apnea And SnoringA new and exciting area of expertise involves the use of an office-based CO2 laser to correct obstructive sleep apnea and snoring. In addition, other methods of diagnosis and treatment are analyzed, often in conjunction with regional sleep laboratories.
Center For Nasal and Sinus DisordersExamination with advanced nasal endoscopy equipment, often combined with computerized axial tomography (CAT scan), offers a cost-effective diagnostic approach for patients with a complex variety of related nasal, sinus, and allergy symptoms. Continued medical management, allergy referral, or surgical intervention will be recommended as appropriate.
