General Overview

The Department of Radiology is located within Strong Memorial Hospital at the University of Rochester Medical Center. This tertiary care center houses Golisano Children's Hospital at Strong and the University of Rochester Cancer Center as well as a Level I Trauma Center and specialized referral services. Ambulatory sites throughout the community and remote sites in the area are accessible by teleradiology.

The academic faculty teaches and conducts research in general radiology and all sub-specialty areas in conjunction with other departments of the Medical Center and the University.

Department Philosophy

The Department of Radiology is committed to providing excellent patient care through diagnostic services and image-guided procedures for inpatients and outpatients of the Strong Health System. Department of Radiology services are provided 24-hours a day to both adults and children. Quality control of radiation devices used for the examination of patients to assure the safety of patients and SMH employees is also provided. The Department of Radiology participates in medical education in radiology and other specialties within the Medical Center. The physicians and other members of the staff of the Department of Radiology also conduct research related to improved patient care.

Mission Statement

The Department of Radiology provides a wide range of clinical diagnostic and therapeutic imaging procedures with high quality and efficiency as a service to patients and their physicians. Demonstrations of quality clinical practices serve as a teaching model for medical students and resident physicians as well as trainees in other areas. The department's leadership role in community and academic radiology is to be maintained through research and clinical practice.

Vision Statement

Patients are to be comfortable and confident in the services received in Radiology. Referring physicians and other health professionals are to recognize an efficient clinical service that is responsive to their needs and effective in applying the latest advances in imaging technology toward optimal care of their patients. Physicians and staff in Radiology are to be confident and proud of their teaching efforts and clinical roles in the health care environment.
