All acute stroke patients coming from the trauma bay will have CT Angiography of the Head and Neck as per protocol with neurology and neurosurgery. For these patients we will give the contrast without knowing Creatinine or GFR values as long as they do not have renal insufficiencies or contrast allergy.

For all other patients we will use IV contrast when medically needed as long as they do not have risk factors for nephrotoxicity. Creatinine levels are not necessary unless the patient has risk factors for nephrotoxicity such as Diabetes, nephrectomy, and other renal diseases.

If Creatinine is 1.6 or higher Mucomyst, Visipaque or alternative studies such as MRI should be considered.
