Student Enrichment Programs

The Office of Student Enrichment Programs serves to broaden the scope of medical education to include health, social, and academic experiences beyond the classroom with the goal of creating cross-culturally competent physicians instilled with the understanding and desire to serve their many communities-professional, local, and global.

Specific program objectives are as follows:

• To nurture students' interest and abilities in academic medicine through research opportunities outside the classroom
• To incorporate students into multidisciplinary teams to enhance their appreciation of the expertise of other health and social service disciplines
• To promote the exchange of health care ideas and practices through communication and interaction with health care professionals in non-allopathic medical systems
• To broaden students' perspective on health, human illness, and problems of human suffering in local and global underserved communities
• To give students hands-on experience providing culturally competent health care and advocacy both in Rochester and overseas
