35th Reunion Dinner

The School of Medicine and Dentistry's Alumni Weekend and Reunion are now celebrated during the University of Rochester's Meliora Weekend! Established in 2001, Meliora Weekend celebrates reunions, family weekend, and homecoming activities. It is designed for alumni, parents, students, faculty, staff, and friends of the University of Rochester.  SMD Reunion events include a range of medically-themed programs, including alumni speakers, seminars, tours, and much more.

2013 Distinguished Alumnus Lecture

View Dr. Harvey J. Alter’s lecture "Hepatitis C - From Hippocrates to Cure."  Dr. Alter ’56, ‘60M (MD) has transformed public heath practice in this country and abroad, making the experience of receiving blood transfusions a safer one by helping to eradicate transfusion-transmitted hepatitis. His co-discovery of the Australia antigen was a key to detecting the hepatitis B virus, and his research led to the identification of hepatitis C, a virus that affects millions of people in the United States. Dr. Alter will discuss the history and his discovery of Hepatitis C, the clinical consequences of this infection and the emerging potential that this sometimes lethal infection can now be cured in the majority of patients.
