Employment OpportunitiesThe Department of Biostatistics and Computational Biology at the University of Rochester invites applications for the following: STATISTICAL SOFTWARE ENGINEERDepartment of Biostatistics and Computational Biology, University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry has an immediate opening for statistical software engineer position. The successful candidate will join a team for developing the bioinformatics components for a newly established center for Biodefense Immune Modeling. This project – the Immune Modeling System for Biodefense (IMSB) – will provide immunologists, statisticians and other researchers with immune system modeling/simulation, statistical analyses, data storage/retrieval, and training tools. The person will work closely with other members of the team, including immunologists, statisticians, mathematicians, and other software developers/QA analysts. The person must have the ability to work collaboratively as well as independently. Job Requirements:
Please send CV to:
RESEARCH ASSISTANT PROFESSORImmediate opening for a Research Assistant Professor. Responsibilities include research, consulting, and collaboration with biomedical investigators. A Ph.D. in Statistics or Biostatistics is required. Cover letter, CV, and 3 letters of reference to:
AA/EOE. Applications from women and minorities encouraged. POSTDOCTORAL TRAINEESHIP IN ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH BIOSTATISTICSReceive training in advanced biostatistical theory and methods, work on epidemiologic and laboratory studies related to environmental health, pursue methodologic research. In accordance with NIEHS requirements, the trainee must have completed a doctoral degree in statistics or a related subject and must be a US citizen or permanent resident. The appointment starting date for this position must be before June 30, 2008. The position is available for 12 months initially with possibility of renewal for a second year by mutual agreement.
AA/EOE. Applications from women and minorities encouraged. POSTDOCTORAL FELLOW IN BIOSTATISTICSImmediate opening for one or more Postdoctoral Fellow positions. The potential candidates are expected to have strong theoretical and applied background and PhD training in statistics, biostatistics or other related disciplines. Preferred research areas include high-dimensional data clustering, Bayesian statistics, computational statistics, model selection and identification, nonparametric regression methods, state-space models and longitudinal data analysis. Strong computational skills are preferred. The position involves collaborating with immunologists and mathematical modelers to develop statistical methods to identify parameters for models of immune response to viral infection and immunological data analysis. The postdoctoral appointment is one year with possible renewal for more years subject to performance and funding availability. The scientific environment is conducive to professional development for those anticipating a career in both academic setting and applied biostatistics setting. This is a unique opportunity for well-trained individuals interested in both methodologic and applied research. Please send CV and three references to:
POSTDOCTORAL FELLOW POSITION IN BIOMATHEMATICSImmediate opening for one postdoctoral fellow position in biomathematical modeling. The potential candidates are expected to have a strong background in applied mathematics or engineering (Ph.D. required), especially in differential equations or stochastic models. Preference will be given to the candidate with experience in mathematical modeling of biomedical systems (in particular, immunology and infectious diseases modeling). The successful candidate is expected to collaborate with immunologists and virologists to develop mathematical models for immune response to viral infection based on immunological experiment data. Experience in computer simulations, numerical analysis and statistics is a plus. Good communication skills and computing techniques are essential. The position requires close collaboration with immunologists, statisticians, and computer software developers to develop immune response modeling and simulation systems. The position is for one year with potential renewal for more years subject to performance and funding availability. The scientific environment is conducive to professional development. Please send CV, three references and other supporting materials to:
ASSISTANT PROFESSOR POSITIONOpening for a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor position. The successful candidate will be expected to develop an active program in methodological research, to perform collaborative research primarily with faculty in the Department of Neurology, and to contribute to the Ph.D. program through teaching and advising graduate students. A generous salary with start-up support is offered. The two departments have a long-standing collaborative relationship and play leadership roles in national and international groups conducting multi-center clinical trials and epidemiological studies in Parkinson’s disease, Huntington’s disease, and other neurologic disorders. Both departments are highly ranked in terms of NIH funding. A key component of the new position will involve working with investigators throughout North America in the design and analysis of clinical trials in Parkinson’s disease. Previous collaborative experience in clinical research, particularly clinical trials, is highly desirable. A cover letter, CV, and 3 letters of reference should be sent to:
