Why you should create a Personal Folders File.
- Getting a new PC e-mail
account:
- If you are new to the Department of Biostatistics and would like a
PC e-mail account created for you, please contact Keith at extension
56691 and he will apply to the University of Rochester Exchange E-mail
Division for an address for you.
-
- How to get e-mail on
your PC:
- The application which enables you to use your PC e-mail is called
Microsoft Outlook. The Microsoft Outlook icon is commonly found on the
left side of your desktop. Simply double-click on the icon to launch
Microsoft Outlook.
-
- How to send e-mail:
- While your Microsoft Outlook window is open simply click on the New
button in the upper right hand corner just below the File menu. Another
way to open a new e-mail to send is to click on the File pull down ->
select New -> then select Mail Message.
-
- Why you should create a
Personal Folders File:
- You should create a Personal Folders File (.pst) for 2 reasons.
- The University of Rochester Exchange Server (where all e-mail is dealt
with) only allows you 20MB of free space for all your e-mail. This may
seem like allot but it's not. You will use up the space faster than
you think. When you create a .pst file you are giving yourself an unlimited
amount of room to store your e-mail.
- Although the University does perform backup functions there is a chance
that your e-mail could get lost on the Exchange server. By creating
a .pst file you are assuring yourself that your e-mails are backed up.
