Current Available Desktops

  • OpenWindows Desktop
  • User's Last Desktop
  • Failsafe Session

At the SUN login screen click Option, then click Session. You can then choose any of the above options. The workstations all default to User's Last Desktop.

OpenWindows desktop will not be available with Solaris 9. It is recommended that all OpenWindow Desktop users migrate to a different desktop as soon as possible.

SUN will be offering a new Desktop with Solaris 9 called GNOME. The specifics are not yet available, but it sounds like GNOME is highly programmable, and can be tailored to look like several other desktops. There is a rumor that CDE will not be offered with Solaris 9, but I have not got confirmation of that from SUN. I will post any updates to this web site.
