Module Six : Project

In module six we will continue to add to the project work developed in the prior modules. We will be using the methods learned in this module to help design one focus group and one key informant interview relevant to your project. Before you begin carefully consider what use qualitative data might be in terms of developing your project.

Remember qualitative data may be used (a) to refine survey instruments, (b) to statistically confirm people's lived experience, or (c) to answer questions raised by statistics.

Key Informant Interview (K.I.I.)

Who are you interviewing and why did you choose them?
We do not need the person's name. Instead focus on what it is about this person which made you select them. What is their relationship to your project? What makes them an expert on their subject?

What would you ask?
Give a brief description of the topic area and describe 2 or 3 questions you might like to ask.

What would you do with the data?
How will you use this data? Think about improving an existing plan or developing a new one.

Focus Group (F.G.)

Who would you include?
How many people? What is their background? (i.e., What makes them similar?) Why did you choose these people? Who will conduct the focus group?

What scenarios or questions would you present to the group?
How will you elicit the information you are looking for. Is the Focus Group the best way of getting this information.

What would you do with the data?

Answer the questions listed under the two headings below and email your responses to your instructor or teaching assistant.
