Module Three : Project

In Module One, you described a program or service you were interested in evaluating. In the Module Two project assignment you (a) identified 3 evaluation points for your program or service, (b) wrote a concept statement for each evaluation point, (c) chose 1 variable to measure each evaluation point, and (d) identified the types (i.e., continuous, categorical, ordinal,...) of each of the 3 variables you selected. The Module Three project assignment is to describe the basic univariate statistical technique you would use to analyze each of the 3 variables you developed in Module Two.

A correctly completed Module Three Project consists of a brief description of your program or service followed by 3 variable summaries (one for each variable you created in Module Two). Each variable summary consists of the following:

    1. The evaluation point and/or the concept it reflects
    2. The variable you selected
    3. The type of variable it is (i.e., categorical, ordinal,...)
    4. The technique you would use to analyze it

Since most of this information is contained in your Module Two Project you need only restructure what you have previously written and identify the correct analytic technique for each variable you used. When you have finished this assignment email it to your instructor as an attachement..

Example of a Module Three Project

Short Description of Program:

In an effort to decrease County X's infant mortality rate due to the preventable Disease ABC we sought to increase the number of women receiving prenatal counseling. Hospital-based prenatal counseling has been shown to effectively prevent mortality due to Disease ABC. We contacted potential mothers by sending flyers to every house in County X.

Variable 1:

  1. The concept I wish to measure is "success of the flyer campaign"
  2. Since the more successful the flyer campaign is the more women will show up for prenatal counseling at County X hospitals, I have chosen to measure the concept "outreach/flyer success" in terms of the number of different women making prenatal visits at hospitals in County X.
  3. This variable is continuous
  4. Univariate analysis will include Means / Averages

Variable 2:

  1. The concept I wish to measure is "visual appeal of the flyer"
  2. Once the flyer was sent out I chose to call a randomly selected group of women living in my county and ask their opinion of the flyer's visual appeal. Each woman was asked whether she found the flyer "Very Appealing", "Somewhat Appealing", "Unappealing", or "Very Unappealing".
  3. This variable is ordinal
  4. Descriptive analysis will include Proportions / Percentages

Variable 3:

  1. The concept I wish to measure is "overall success of the flyer campaign"
  2. If the campaign is successful more women will get prenatal counseling and thus fewer babies will die of Disease ABC. I chose to measure the concept "overall success of the flyer campaign" by assessing the rate of infant mortality from Disease ABC in County X the year after the flyer campaign. (If the rate is lower this year than the rate from previous years then the program was successful.)
  3. This variable is continuous.
  4. Univariate analysis will include Means / Averages
