Research Focus

Major Focus of the Research Program:

Determination of ear and brain molecular and neuro mechanisms responsible for encoding of speech and complex sounds in the young and the aged.

Facets of the Research Program:

  1. Neurophysiological encoding of speech and biologically relevant sound features by the auditory nervous system.

  2. Functional molecular, genetic and neuroanatomical organization of the auditory system.

  3. Neuropsychological, neurochemical, molecular and neuroanatomical bases of presbycusis. Program project in collaboration with twelve other faculty at the University of Rochester, Rochester Institute of Technology and University of Buffalo.

  4. In collaboration with the Center for Aging and Developmental Biology, University of Rochester Aab Center for Biomedical Sciences, gene therapy and regeneration studies of the mammalian auditory system.
