Application Process

We welcome your interest in the University of Rochester Anesthesiology Residency Program. Applications are reviewed upon receipt. Medical graduates who meet our criteria are selected for an interview and notified via email or phone call. Generally, interviews are held on Mondays and Fridays during November, December, and January. See more interview information.

NRMP Positions

15113 Advanced (3-year): Seven positions offered

Students match to begin training as CA-1 (PGY-2) residents upon successful completion of at least one year of postgraduate training in an approved clinical base experience (arranged separately).

15115 Categorical (4-year): Seven positions offered

Students begin their training in the Clinical Base Year (CBY) (see page 3 of brochure) program at the University of Rochester upon graduation from medical school. The following year, residents begin their three-year continuum in anesthesiology.

Requirements

NRMP Applicants

Medical students should apply through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Students are considered upon completion of the following requirements:

  • ERAS application
  • Curriculum vitae
  • Official medical school transcript
  • Official licensing examination transcript (USMLE, NMBE, COMEX)
  • Dean's letter
  • Three letters of recommendation (commenting on clinical abilities)

CA-1 Applicants

A physician may enter the residency training program in anesthesiology after having successfully completed one year of training in an approved clinical base experience (internal or emergency medicine, OB/GYN, neurology, family practice, surgery, or pediatrics) at a location of their choice. Applicants are considered upon completion of the following requirements:

  • Universal application
  • Curriculum vitae
  • Official medical school transcript
  • Official licensing examination transcripts (USMLE, NMBE, COMLEX)
  • Copy of Certificate(s) of Training (if applicable)
  • Dean's letter
  • Three letters of recommendation from attending physicians who have directly observed applicant's clinical work during residency training
