Benefits
Residents in the Anesthesiology Residency program receive the standard University of Rochester package of benefits for graduate medical education (GME) trainees. Those include full health and dental plans, malpractice insurance, life insurance, sick leave, tuition benefits (spouse included), short-term loans, and access to university athletic facilities. Other benefits include:
- Five paid days per year to attend educational meetings; 20 vacation days.
- Intranet access (extensive collection of electronic journals and books).
- Moonlighting: Residents are eligible at the start of the CA-2 year. Pay is $65/hour. If residents moonlight more than 50 hours, the department pays the New York State license fee ($735).
- Fee paid for American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA) written board examination ($950).
- Books included ($1,000 value): Basics of Anesthesia; Miller’s Anesthesia; Clinical Anesthesia; Anesthesia and Coexisting Disease; Atlas of Regional Anesthesia; Clinical Anesthesiology;Clinical Anesthesia Practice; Users' Guide to the Medical Literature; Starting Out: A Practice Management Guide for Anesthesiology Residents (an ASA publication); and Procedures.
- Society memberships: New York State Society of Anesthesiologists (NYSSA), American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA), International Anesthesia Research Society (IARS).
- Journal subscriptions: Anesthesiology, Anesthesia & Analgesia.
- A $1,000 annual educational allowance ($500 in the PGY-1 year).
- Morning continental breakfast at daily conference.
