A Day in the Life of aCA-1:A typical day in the life of a CA1 as perceived by Michael Huot The day always starts with the alarm clock. After a short preparation for work and an 8-minute commute I arrive at the hospital around 6am. This allows me time to set up my room prior to lecture, which is from 6:30 to 7:00. After lecture the first patient of the day is ready in pre-anesthesia to be evaluated. The first case usually starts at 7:30am. Throughout the day I administer anesthesia for 2-4 cases depending on the case length. Normally over the course of a day I have a couple bathroom breaks and a 30-minute lunch. Between 3:30 to 5:00pm my room finishes or an evening person is sent in to take over. The day ends with looking over the charts for the next day and a quick preoperative phone call to the anesthesia attending to discuss the plan. The rest of my evening is typically spent with my family.
