Frequently Asked QuestionsTo address commonly asked questions, we have compiled the following list. If you need more information, please contact us at fmres@urmc.rochester.edu or call 1-800-245-5139. What is your application deadline? December 31, 2007. Are there any application requirements other than the ERAS requirements? In addition to meeting ERAS requirements, applicants must have passed Step I of the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) before being included on our rank list for the Match. We will interview an applicant before Step I results are known, but we must have the exam results before ranking him/her. We also require three letters of recommendation in addition to the Dean's letter. How many residency positions are there? There are 10 residency positions. Eight residents have their inpatient practices at our urban site, Highland Family Health Center. The resident in the Combined Family Medicine/Family Medicine slot (see below) occupies one of these positions at Highland Family Medicine. Two residents have their practices at our inner city site, Brown Square Community Health Center. All other aspects of the program are the same for the 10 residents. How many people apply? For the 2008 Match, we received more than 700 applications. When are the interviews? Starting the Monday after Thanksgiving, interviews are every Monday and Friday, except Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve. The interview period ends on the last Friday of January 2008. How do I apply for the Global Health, Political Advocacy and Leadership, and/or OB Tracks? When you schedule your interview, simply indicate you have an interest in any of these tracks. You may change your mind either way later, but this helps us better prepare for your visit. No commitment to any track is necessary until shortly before 2008 orientation. How do I apply for the Combined Family Medicine/Preventive Medicine Residency? When you schedule your interview, make sure you tell us that you would also like to interview with Preventive Medicine. We have coordinated specific paired dates with that department, so your choice of interview dates will be limited. Also, while Preventive Medicine accepts the ERAS application that you submit to us, they further require a separate personal statement concerning your interest in Preventive Medicine. Do you accept international medical graduates? We accept graduates from certain international medical schools. We do not accept applicants from any Caribbean schools except Ross, Saba, and Saint George's. What's required of international medical graduates? All international applicants must have completed at least one full year of direct, hands-on patient care experience (no observerships) in a US or Canadian health care facility. They must also have passed Steps I and II of the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) and be eligible for certification from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG). We accept only permanent residents or J-1 visas. When will I be notified I have been selected for an interview? All applicants to be interviewed will be notified by email five to seven days after an application is entered into ERAS. A hard copy of the invitation will be sent at the same time by postal mail. |
