What's the application deadline?December 15, 2006. Internships begin in June 2007. Late applications make scheduling interviews difficult, and most applicants will have submitted their applications by early November 2006. Interviews are offered on a rolling basis. What qualifications do I need to apply?Residency applicants must have one of the following qualifications:
What visa type is offered for PGY-1 residents?A J-1 visa. Applicants must be eligible for a J-1 visa sponsorship. Exchange visitors coming in under the "J" program for graduate medical education or training must have a passing grade on the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination in Medical Sciences and a demonstrated competency in English. CSA and English language proficiency examination dates must be valid at the time of the first day of work. On or before the first day of orientation or work, residents on a J-1 visa must also be able to show proof of eligibility to work. That means valid work authorization papers (a copy of DS-2019 and passport, with an I-94 card attached). Participants in the "J" exchange visitor program must also have sufficient funds to cover all expenses. What USMLE scores do I need to be considered? The University of Rochester does not set score limits, but passing is required. Will my application still be considered if I don't pass on one of my initial USMLE exam attempts?Yes. How long can I wait to apply after graduating from medical school?Up to five years. When are interviews scheduled? From mid-November through mid-January. See interview dates. The Intern Selection Committee will extend interview invitations only after reviewing completed applications. We will contact interviewing candidates (by email) as early as possible to permit suitable travel planning. What if I can't interview on one of the scheduled dates?Speak with the program director. In exceptional cases, including personal hardship, alternate visits can be arranged.
