Why I Chose Rochester"I interviewed all around the country, from programs with big names to smaller community hospitals, and ranked Rochester first. The program stood out in its resident friendliness and the quality of its leadership. I also liked the bio-psychosocial tradition here, and the fact that the residents went into everything from competitive fellowships to primary care. And the fact that you can buy a nice house on a resident's salary didn't hurt either." Julie "Rochester is the best kept secret of the Northeast!" Amitha
"In this program, you always know that your family is considered an important part of your life and that they come first." Tim "As a former medical student here, I observed first-hand that the residents at this program are extraordinarily content compared to my colleagues at other programs. The teaching here is prolific, the work hours stringently adhered to, and the Strong Memorial Hospital ancillary services are whoppingly cutting down on any wasteful scut work to make room for the great deal of education that we are fed." Makiko "My favorite aspect of the Strong program is the collegial atmosphere among residents. My colleagues have always been willing (and even happy) to help with any issue, no matter how small, and their cooperation makes life as a resident a lot happier." Steve
"I would say that the residents are cooperative and always willing to help you out if you need coverage or even advice." Chad "I like the two-week rotations a lot. It's just the right amount of time to spend on the units where it can really get busy. With two weeks, everyone can tolerate the hard work and long hours. I like the fact that the people in this program, including Dr. B and the chiefs, are extremely responsive to the concerns of the residents and really care about making the needed changes. Dr. B is highly supportive and a great mentor to have. I also like that it is one upper level to one intern on the floors. This keeps the team small and teaching effective. There is no interference with the upper levels running the medicine teams and this is much appreciated by the R2 and R3 classes that are learning leadership and management skills." Arun "The camaraderie. People laugh and joke while in the hospital (which I found refreshing) and are always willing to help out." Harry
