Program Overview

Our core curriculum includes experiences in ambulatory general and subspecialty medicine; inpatient general and subspecialty medicine; and in critical care, emergency medicine, neurology, geriatrics, palliative care, general medicine consultation, and research/scholarship.

Review the full three-year curriculum.

Ambulatory continuity experience is in the faculty-resident practice in the Ambulatory Care Center at Strong Memorial Hospital, at Highland Hospital, or at selected community-based practices.

Inpatient medicine experience and emergency department training is at Strong Memorial Hospital. Each resident also gets two months of general medicine inpatient experience at Highland Hospital.

Geriatrics rotations are based at Highland and Monroe Community Hospitals, both within walking distance of Strong.

Unlike most university hospitals, Strong Memorial Hospital has three community roles. That adds scope and depth to the residency experience. Strong is a tertiary care referral hospital with an internationally known research faculty. It's a hospital for private patients. And it's the primary site of ambulatory and inpatient care for underserved patients.

Highland Hospital is a 272-bed community hospital, and the home of Rochester's Family Medicine Residency Program. Monroe Community Hospital is a center of excellence for the University's Geriatrics programs.
