Research Overview

Scholarship activity allows residents to acquire skills that will be useful throughout their medical careers.

PGY-1 residents have a required two-week core research rotation. For those who want to continue a project beyond the first year a research option is now available in all three general pathways of internal medicine: Subspeciality, Hospital Medicine, and Ambulatory Medicine.

This research option allows extra time for research started in the first year: four weeks in PGY-2 and four to eight weeks in PGY-3. Residents who satisfy the research option requirements will graduate with the designation "Distinction in Research."

Residents can also schedule two-week research blocks in PGY-2 and PGY-3, this however does not fulfill the requirements of the research option.

This web page is designed to inform residents about the PGY-1 core rotation and the research option. If you have any questions, contact Dr. John Grable at (585) 275-5710 or by pager (16-1198).
