About the Department of Neurology

The Department of Neurology is recognized for excellence in research, teaching, and clinical care. The full-time faculty includes 70 clinical neurologists. An additional 15 neurologists with clinical appointments are engaged primarily in the private practice of neurology. The Department of Neurology is an integral part of the extensive teaching and research program in the Neurosciences at the University of Rochester Medical Center, which includes the Department of Neurobiology and Anatomy, the Department of Neurosurgery, and the Divisions of Neuroradiology, Neuropathology, and Neuropsychiatry. Areas of particular strength in patient care, teaching, and research within the Department of Neurology include: cerebrovascular diseases, neuromuscular disorders, movement disorders, multiple sclerosis and allied neuroimmunologic disorders, Alzheimer's disease and allied dementias, behavioral neurology, epilepsy, and electrodiagnosis (EEG, EMG, evoked potential). The Department functions in an exceptional collegial atmosphere of cooperation.
