Application Process

Application to Residency Program

The Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program selects the best qualified candidates regardless of sex, race, creed, color, national origin, handicap, or age. The selection process focuses on information supplied in the application package and a personal interview. The deadline for applications is October 15.

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology only accepts electronically submitted application packages through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Application material may be obtained through the Dean's office at your medical school.

Residency Application Requirements

A complete application package (all transmitted through ERAS) should include the following items:

  • ERAS application form
  • Personal statement
  • Medical Student Performance Evaluation (MSPE)
  • Scholastic accomplishments
  • Medical school attended
  • USMLE/COMLEX scores—Applicants from U.S. or Canadian medical schools must pass Step I of the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) exam or Level 1 of the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners Examination (COMLEX) exam in order to be ranked at our ranking meeting in early February.
  • Three letters of recommendation (in addition to the Dean's letter)—These letters should come from three faculty members, at least one from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology

A personal interview is also required for consideration of candidacy. See Interview Information.

Our program deliberately seeks a diverse group of residents whose backgrounds and beliefs provide the richness of varied experiences. At the same time, we expect residents in our program to respect the autonomy and value systems of patients and colleagues.

The OB-GYN Residency Program participates in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). Applications to the University of Rochester OB-GYN Residency Program will be accepted ONLY through the Association of American Medical College's Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).
