Welcome from the Director and Chair

Welcome and thank you for your interest in the Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program at the University of Rochester. Throughout our site, you'll find a wealth of information about the outstanding educational opportunities that await you. We hope this overview of our program will move you to take a closer look at our institution and stimulate your interest in doing your OB/GYN residency in our department.

Our primary objective for training is to develop and graduate residents who are well rounded in the depth and breadth of our specialty. To that end, we provide quality education and extensive clinical experience in general obstetrics, gynecology, and preventive care. This is accomplished not only through active interactions with our highly respected full-time faculty, but also through opportunities to work with a large group of committed clinicians throughout our community who expose residents to a broad spectrum of approaches to patient care.

In addition to clinical experience, our residency emphasizes the value of teaching and research. As a resident, you will help in the education of our students and participate actively in our educational conferences. Working closely with scientists in our department, you'll enjoy rich opportunities for research activities that continue to be a valued facet of our curriculum.

While the academic and clinical aspects of our program are of primary importance, we're sensitive to the fact that residents are real people and need quality interpersonal relationships both in their personal lives and at work. You'll find that our program offers a family-like atmosphere, where residents feel a sense of camaraderie and closeness. The relationship between attending faculty members and residents is one of accessibility and learning.

The education you receive here will prepare you for a future in our specialty, no matter where you choose to focus your skills and knowledge. Graduating residents from our program consistently make smooth and rapid transitions into the most competitive subspecialty fellowships, clinical practice, and academic faculty positions.

Thanks for considering us. We welcome your inquiries and applications.
