GynecologyAbout the DivisionThe division of General Gynecology and Obstetrics at the University of Rochester Medical Center oversees both a busy private general clinical practice and resident activities on the OB, GYN, and Ambulatory services. Faculty is present at both Strong Memorial Hospital and Highland Hospital allowing for continuity of supervision and curriculum. On labor and delivery, faculty supervise residents in the care of resident service patients including triage evaluation of pregnant patients, management of labor and delivery, care of high-risk antepartum patients, and provision of postpartum care and outpatient follow-up. On the Gynecology service, faculty supervise the resident team providing surgical and postoperative care to resident service patients, inpatient care for gynecologic conditions treated non-surgically, and gynecologic consultations on inpatients or in the emergency department. The faculty also supervises residents in their continuity clinics at both Strong Memorial Hospital and Highland Hospital. Specialty ambulatory clinics in family planning and contraception, female pelvic pain, and colposcopy occur weekly. Division faculty have developed comprehensive surgical and ambulatory curricula, thereby adding a formal component to the teaching and learning achieved during performance of clinical activities.
