SchedulesRotationsAll rotations are 6 weeks, with two rotations of 7 weeks for a total of 51 weeks. The last week of the year is considered a float system, allowing graduating R4s a week off for board preparation. Strong Memorial Hospital (SMH) Obstetrics is split into ½ night float and ½ day obstetrics.
Night Call ResponsibilitiesA night float system is in place at Strong Memorial Hospital. Residents at each level participate in the night float team for 6-7 weeks a year (divided into two blocks). Overall, call is at most Q7. At Highland Hospital, call is shared with Family Medicine residents and varies by year. On average call is Q4-7. The night float system covers both obstetrics and gynecology; therefore, there is no separate call for the gynecology service. Holiday Float SystemA holiday float system is in place with residents spliting the holidays at both Strong and Highland Hospitals so each half of the housestaff receives either Christmas or New Year's off on a request basis. The intern class includes Thanksgiving in their float system so each resident receives either Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Year's off.
