Pediatric Resident Research Track

The Research Pathway

There are many opportunities for research training and development. We will work with you to match your individual needs, skills, interests and accomplishments to a project.

First year residents who have an interest in exploring research should initially discuss the option with Dr. Peter Harris, Residency Program Director.

General Program Structure

Dr. Frank Gigliotti, Associate Chair for Academic Affairs, will meet and provide first year residents with individual guidance regarding:

The goal is for the resident to present and publish data in national fora. Residents will also present their projects at the Annual Trainees Research Grand Rounds.

A 4 Week Elective Will Allow Residents to do:

  • Background reading
  • Topic review
  • Project planning and implementation

Weekly Research Activity:

During the second and third year, your mentor will guide you with:

  • Developing a schedule for project completion
  • Obtaining funding
  • Developing research and academic skills
  • Manuscript development and presenting findings

During the second and third year you will devote 1/2 day weekly to a research experience involving:

  • Data generation
  • Data analysis
  • Writing abstracts, grant proposals, papers
  • Progress report (or manuscript)
  • Presenting at meetings (expenses covered)
