The field is moving in the direction of musculoskeletal medicine, and we are tailoring our program for these evolving demands to ensure each resident is prepared for a career in PM&R medicine.

What are the requirements to apply?

Minimum qualifications include a medical degree, such as an M.D. or a D.O., successful completion of United States Medical Licensing Examination Step 1, and J1 Visa or permanent resident status (if not a U.S. citizen).

Graduates of the University of Rochester’s PM&R program take part in fellowships, join private practice and academic settings, or work at freestanding rehabilitation institutions. Rochester, the third-largest city in New York state, is situated only minutes from Lake Ontario, one of the famous Great Lakes. It is located within one hour by airplane from Boston, New York City, and Washington, D.C. It is also less than three hours by car to the Adirondacks, the Thousand Islands, the Finger Lakes wine country and Toronto. Many residents enjoy visiting Niagara Falls, which is about 80 miles to the west of Rochester and an easy day trip by car.
